About Joy Hysteric

Joy Hysteric was established in 2004, founded by Creative Director and Stylist Mel Tan who opened the first Joy Hysteric boutique on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. After 11 years of bricks n mortar retail, Joy Hysteric moved online exclusively mid-2015.

13 years on, Joy Hysteric is synonymous in representing Mel's aesthetic and attitude - a juxtaposition of high end / bad ass femme. The Joy Hysteric name being a juxtaposition in itself, inspired by two major emotions that run through Mel's veins when it comes to fashion; Joy, with a little bit of Hysteria.

Here is where you will find a carefully curated showcase of Mel's favourite things; a unique and personalised edit of hand-picked designer offerings straight off the pages of her Instagram, limited edition merchandise [coming soon] and rare and genuine insight from Mel on topics close to her heart such as style, tattoos and being your own [/a] boss.

2017 welcomes a highly anticipated relaunch of a brand that continues to evolve, like its creator, to always stay on top of its game. With a new direction, new website and the introduction of Mel's blog FASHION + TATTS; Joy Hysteric transitions once more, to a digital fashion and lifestyle platform and overall creative outlet.

Joy Hysteric's founder Mel Tan, renown for her instantly recognisable and distinct personal style, is a seasoned fashion director, stylist, producer and all-round creative with over 18 years experience in the fashion industry.
As Creative Director for Joy Hysteric since 2004, Mel tends to stay away from trends, preferring to carve her own niche in the market. Having always stayed true to her heart and vision, she has naturally garnered the attention of over 180,000 followers, commanding an audience worldwide who are intrigued by her ever-evolving style and collection of ink.
Citing some of her inspirations; the art of tattoos, Japanese pop culture and 90's hip hop music, Mel combines these passions with a bold attitude (instilled in her from a young age by her late mother Rosie) and her love for dressing up which makes for an eclectic and unique overall aesthetic that is Joy Hysteric.
